Ref: PTR09/621 Location: East Midlands Description: "Blank sheet of paper" opportunity for a senior level Supply Chain Executive to head up a newly created team in the defence sector Salary: to £65k plus benefits Our Client, a leading specialist Aerospace & Defence organisation, has a newly created challenging position for a Supply Chain Manager to drive forward their Supply Chain Strategy. This challenging position requires an individual who is creative and innovative in driving forward Supply Chain Strategy and implementation for a business that is required to grow and where agile supplier management needs to enhance rather than restrict growth. This creative strength needs to be matched by an inherent ability to champion process adherence and appropriate corporate governance, developing our client into a recognised procurement organisation with a reputation, respect and bargaining power. The successful candidate will be operationally responsible to the CEO for all aspects of supply chain management, procurement operations and procurement policies, and will additionally be responsible for the implementation of wider business strategies related to supply chain and the implementation of the company Subcontract Management Process.
Core areas of responsibility:
· Responsible for the development and implementation of the Clients Supply Chain Management Strategy. The successful candidate will be the owner of this strategy
· Develop Subcontract Management Plans for each Programme and for each key externally purchased item, tailoring the Supply Chain Management Strategy and Plans to each programme and supplier.
· Develop and sustain a Sub Contract Programme Management team to deliver from all sources of supply material necessary to achieve Operations deliverables
· Drive the formulation and implementation of the Make/Buy policies for the Client by introducing professional, robust, consistent management of Supplier selection
· Lead major Supply Chain Negotiations with new and existing major Sub Contractors
· Produce a supply chain savings plan that includes clear savings targets
· Define and implement negotiation policies within the Client.
· Develop strategic alliances with key suppliers essential to sustaining of the Business
· Build personal relationships with Senior Executives of Strategic partners/ Suppliers.
· Managing the team’s day-to-day activities but more importantly supporting the ongoing development of the team particularly as it affects succession planning.
· Drive the development of the supply chain management, the subcontract management, and procurement functions into a “World Class” operation incorporating best practice process and methods.
· Manage risk and risk mitigation throughout the supply chain, including the financial aspects.
To be considered for this business critical key role the successful candidate will demonstrate an excellent understanding of business finance, contracts, material and technologies employed in a prime contract systems environment, as well as exhaustive supply chain management experience, and supply chain strategy development knowledge. As the role effectively starts from “a blank sheet of paper”, you will be a trained and skilled negotiator with a track record of successful negotiations and possess the ability to build strong and effective relationships at all levels within the business and outside to customers, partners and subcontractors. Essentially you will possess experience of managing high value and high risk subcontracts, strategic to the success of the business and ideally allied to MOD contracts. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will demonstrate considerable experience in project management of subcontractor performance and will be degree level qualified in a related Engineering discipline as well as Business discipline, having attained Chartered membership of the Institute of Purchasing Management or similar.
In return, the Supply Chain Manager will receive an excellent remuneration - £50,000 - £65,000 basic dependent upon experience plus benefits including pension, healthcare, 25 days holiday and relocation assistance, if required.
