Ref: PTR10/854 Location: West Yorkshire Description: The role of Mechanical Engineer is newly created, and will require the successful candidate to work within a multi-disciplinary team on major development projects, contributing primarily on the technical aspects of product development. Expertise in DFM, design for test, reliability engineering, as well as an appreciation of the use of engineering analysis tools such as FMEA, FEA & Mould flow are advantageous. Salary: to £35k plus benefits Established more than 25 years ago, our niche market client have developed an impressive reputation across the globe offering highest quality, innovative and unique products in line with specific customer needs, and as a result of continued success and a planned programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit a proactive, professional and highly self motivated and dynamic Mechanical Engineer to compliment their existing team. The role of Mechanical Engineer is newly created, and will require the successful candidate to work within a multi-disciplinary team on major development projects, contributing primarily on the technical aspects of product development. The role will focus on realizing concepts into manufacture with the emphasis on resolving mechanical challenges in Solidworks. Expertise in DFM, design for test, reliability engineering, as well as an appreciation of the use of engineering analysis tools such as FMEA, FEA & Mould flow are advantageous, and the candidate will work closely with other teams to prototype and deliver workable product solutions to brief and cost.
To be considered for this challenging permanent position, you will combine highly creative lateral thinking with excellent technical skills, and a broad base of industry experience, to tackle mechanical challenges. Work includes undertaking complete product developments from concept to market and finding novel and radical solutions to new and existing problems, which are fit for the end user. You will therefore quickly get to grips with the key restraints and geometry of existing client and competitor archetypes, and demonstrate comprehensive skills and hands-on experience of 3D CAD (Solidworks) to solve mechanical challenges and analyze components structurally, as well as in accessing and reducing potential risks by utilising the range of engineering tools including FMEA, FEA and Mould flow.
You will be an enthusiastic team member able to build good relationships with other internal departments both in the UK and China, and will be able to document findings in a meticulous and organized structure and contribute where relevant into product specifications and modification documents whilst working in a time critical environment, and will be hardworking and driven with genuine passion for good design work.
It is envisaged that the successful candidate will have achieved a first degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline and will demonstrate with conviction a genuine passion for product design, mechanics, and engineering in general. A creative approach to problem solving and concept generation will prove particularly advantageous as will an appreciation of the use of engineering analysis in product development and extensive hands-on experience of 3D CAD tools, preferably Solidworks.
You will therefore possess at least 3 years experience of mechanical engineering in the field of consumer related product development (any industry or product range considered) and a strong understanding of high volume manufacturing methods and processes, with experience in the detail design of plastic and metal component again proving distinctly advantageous. Additionally beneficial would be demonstrable knowledge and experience of geometry and mechanisms, both in terms of prototypes and associated calculations and tolerances, gained within a commercial environment.
Not for the faint hearted – and not for the “wannabes”… this is genuinely an exceptional opportunity for a truly committed product design professional to make their mark within perhaps the most diverse and unlimited design environments you will ever encounter!
