Electrical Field Engineer - Northampton to £40k + benefits

Location: Northampton and the UK

Description: Electrical engineer required to work on a field basis, undertaking extensive liaision, electrical hardware and associated control software design, development and installation activities at sites throughout the UK allied to automated systems and materials handling solutions.

Salary: to £40k plus vehicle and benefits

Our clients specialise in the design, development and implementation of automated materials handling solutions for supply throughout the UK and Europe, and as a result of an ongoing programme of planned strategic growth for 2010, a new permanent position has been created for an experienced Field Service Engineer to provide complete controls design solutions including electrical hardware and software design through to commissioning within budgetary and timescale constraints and provide 24hr, 7 days a week and 52 weeks of the year emergency cover as part of a team working in a flexible rota scheme.

 
The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of sales, estimating, design, installation and commissioning and associated project management of upgrade and modernisation activities to client sites across the country, and you will manage the development and maintenance of procedures and standards that will be utilised across multiple projects in a continuous improvement culture.
 
You will undertake appropriate procurement activities for both products and services to ensure on time within budget project delivery, and will design and produce electrical layout and schematic drawings utilising CAD tools as well as associated health and safety documentation, method statements and risk assessments when required.
 
Additionally you will design and test conveyor control software, assisting in the development of standard blocks and solutions and commissioning said control systems on site before providing training and support to end users, developing new solutions where appropriate whilst being mindful of utilising standard product solutions where available.
 
Other duties will include providing technical support to the service team and providing a maintenance system that allows PPM to be monitored and improved, and occasional working at height or in freezer room conditions undertaking reactive and planned maintenance when required.
 
The role necessitates at least 5 years hands on experience gained within an electrical and controls environment allied to the automated warehousing and distribution sector, and the successful candidate will demonstrate proven skills in the fault find, modification and debug of S5 & S7 plc platforms as well as an HND or above in a relevant engineering discipline and a working knowledge of FEM and BS standards governing the automated warehouse industry. Knowledge of CAD and DCS systems will additionally prove advantageous.
