Ref: PTR10/962 Location: West Midlands Description: Senior experienced control systems and software specialist required to coordinate the activities of a busy controls development team allied to a range of automation, materials handling and special purpose machinery applications. Salary: to £45k plus benefits Our client is renowned as a world leader in the competitive and technically demanding arena of special purpose production and packaging machinery, a reputation attained as a result of consistent success in all areas of new product development, bespoke solutions for productivity improvement and constant manufacturing machinery design innovation. As a result of continued success and a planned programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, self motivated and accomplished Senior Control Systems and Software Engineer to compliment their existing team of engineering professionals.
Reporting to the Controls Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist expertise on Control Systems and Software applications for projects that meet customer requirements, undertaking the design of appropriate control systems and software applications for machine projects and working closely with project teams and ensure that their expertise is integrated with other specialist functions from machine concept through to commissioning. You will additionally draft general design specifications, design PLC’s, servo drives and associated controls and programming, before testing the machines prior to customer dispatch.
Flexibility and customer facing skills are essential for this key role, as you will provide customer support that can include visits to customer sites and help with installation and commissioning and troubleshooting when required, whilst supervising field service software technicians ensuring adherence to health and safety policies and procedures and ensuring that contractors and staff do the same.
To be considered for this challenging and varied opportunity, you will possess a degree in Electrical / Software Engineering and demonstrate at least 5 years experience gained within a special purpose machine environment allied to the packaging sector or food, drink, and pharma sectors, or with closely associated manufacturers. Essentially you will demonstrate experience of Bradley Control Logix and/or Siemens, ‘C’, Visual Basic, PLC Programming, Servo drives/controls and in the coding and testing of machines, with experience of designing appropriate control systems and software applications, preferably for special purpose machines proving distinctly advantageous.
