Our client specialise in the design, development and implementation of automated materials handling solutions for supply throughout the UK and Europe, and as a result of an ongoing programme of planned strategic growth, a new permanent position has been created for a Principal Controls Design Engineer tasked with assisting the Controls Design Manager in the smooth running of the Electrical and Controls Design Department.
The successful candidate will assist in all aspects of resource planning, allocation, mentoring and training of the Controls Engineering team, and will be able to respond promptly and efficiently – becoming involved in projects that require additional support, whilst maintaining strong communication links internally and liaising with internal product centres and sub-system suppliers and keeping the controls Manager, Controls Concepting and estimating and Design Engineers aware of latest developments, before following projects through in a Lead Controls Engineer capacity utilising your Electrical, Software and Commissioning skills in activities at customer premises and ensuring on time within budget project delivery.
Educated to at least HND level in electrical engineering, you will demonstrate strong CAD skills and PC literacy and previous proven experience in a senior controls capacity, deputizing for the controls design manager when required and assisting in the formulation of future strategies, resource planning and the production of design and manufacturing programmes, undertaking both hardware and software design from concept stage through to commissioning, whilst providing technical support to any departments as well as working closely with project sales and project manager personnel to ensure smooth delivery.
This is an exceptionally challenging “key person” business critical position and the successful candidate will demonstrate an articulate, highly professional and self motivated demeanour to both customer and fellow team members respectively. You will ideally possess proven experience gained within a materials handling or automation and special purpose machinery environment, and will be flexible to undertake client site visits globally when necessary.
